10 years since the Boscastle Floods

15th August 2014

This morning we cast our minds back to the 16th August 2004, when idyllic Boscastle hit the headlines when it was devastated by flash floods.

The waters came storming down the valley, devastating the small village and sweeping cars into the ocean. Meanwhile, trees were ripped up and houses and businesses left in tatters.

Iconic images of people being airlifted from the roofs of their homes were beamed across the world, as Boscastle became the top story...

But luckily, no-one lost their life on that fateful day - thanks to the fast response of the emergency services and RAF.

Boscastle has now recovered, and is once again a thriving community - regaining it's beautiful charm... a million miles away from the devastation it once saw back in 2004.

Remembering Robin Williams

13th August 2014

Robin Williams

So yesterday, we woke to the very sad news that legendary comedian and actor Robin Williams had passed away overnight, at the age of just 63.

Throughout the day, we played tributes to Robin including a special show at 2pm and 7pm including music made famous in his films.

By popular demand, we've been asked to offer our special 5 minute montage of favourite moments to listen again - which you can do here.

Please remember, if you feel low, or have struggles with depression there is always someone you can talk to. You can click here to find out more, or contact The Samaritans for help on 08457 90 90 90 or email jo@samaritans.org

4th August 2014

Neil and Tina's Secret Mission

Running up to Air Day 2014, Neil and Tina went behind the scenes at RNAS Culdrose.  Sadly, Neil's cracked rib, prevented him taking part in some of the challenges...but we still hurt him, with all the laughter as you'll see from the videos.

Tina re-lives the 'horror' of a fitness test

Thanks to 'Dreckly' for helping out.

Walking the Plank

It's a bit much to ask Tina to walk the plank, but she didn't have any qualms about it!

You can see all the photos in this gallery

It caused some controversy!

We took the Breakfast Show to Pool Academy

8th July 2014

Outside Broadcast at Pool Academy

So a surreal experience this morning, taking the Breakfast Show to Pool Academy School,

Outside Broadcast at Pool Academy

at which we broadcast to an empty school hall for 2 hours and then madness ensued as the 800 students arrived for an 'assembly' to watch us, plus they listen to the first play of the Pool Academy students and pupils from Pencoys Primary radio advert, self written, recorded and produced by the students.

The day did get busy however, and it was a privelege to meet so many talented students and staff.

For instance, here's the audio from talented musicians LucyAnna and Teaching Assistant Jack Wallen.

Listen to LucyAnna above and find out more on Facebook.

To hear more Jack Wallen, listen above or check out his front-garden sessions on Youtube.

When the school turned up, clearly it was madness...in a controlled chaotic way and what well-behaved kids!

Pool Academy and Pencoys Primary

The students, came to Pirate FM to record their radio advert and caught up with Tina....

And here's what happened after they'd heard their radio advert for the first time...

Well Done creative media stars of the future!
