If I didn't work in Radio

19th August 2014

So If I wasn't the Pirate FM Apprentice what might I be doing? We've teamed up with Cornwall College and Duchy College to give the presenters a chance to try one of the courses offered by the Cornwall College Group.

I tried my hand at the automotive course by changing brake pads and tires of a customer’s car at Cornwall College in Camborne. Watch for the video for yourself below.

Also watch videos of Neil and Tina trying engineering, James Dundon getting green-fingered with horticulture and Scott Temple at home in the kitchen here!

Allison claims a cool £1,000 in cash

15th August 2014

Allison Evans - 1000 winner

Clever-clogs Allison Evans from Falmouth claimed a cool £1,000 in cash - just by answering all ten questions correctly on Pirate FM's £1,000 Minute.

She took part in the popular competition, presented by Neil and Tina at Breakfast last week and decided to decline the opportunity to 'double her money' with an additional question.

Allison popped into Pirate FM's studios at Redruth to pick up the cash from Neil and Tina, where also presented a cheque to us - which was a portion of her winnings to The Pirate Trust.

She also revealed that the cash would help "soften the blow" of a recent car service, and she has also splashed out on some West-End Theatre Tickets ahead of a trip to the capital later this year.

The £1,000 Minute is back every weekday morning during Neil and Tina at Breakfast, only on Pirate FM.

10 years since the Boscastle Floods

15th August 2014

This morning we cast our minds back to the 16th August 2004, when idyllic Boscastle hit the headlines when it was devastated by flash floods.

The waters came storming down the valley, devastating the small village and sweeping cars into the ocean. Meanwhile, trees were ripped up and houses and businesses left in tatters.

Iconic images of people being airlifted from the roofs of their homes were beamed across the world, as Boscastle became the top story...

But luckily, no-one lost their life on that fateful day - thanks to the fast response of the emergency services and RAF.

Boscastle has now recovered, and is once again a thriving community - regaining it's beautiful charm... a million miles away from the devastation it once saw back in 2004.

Remembering Robin Williams

13th August 2014

Robin Williams

So yesterday, we woke to the very sad news that legendary comedian and actor Robin Williams had passed away overnight, at the age of just 63.

Throughout the day, we played tributes to Robin including a special show at 2pm and 7pm including music made famous in his films.

By popular demand, we've been asked to offer our special 5 minute montage of favourite moments to listen again - which you can do here.

Please remember, if you feel low, or have struggles with depression there is always someone you can talk to. You can click here to find out more, or contact The Samaritans for help on 08457 90 90 90 or email jo@samaritans.org

Tina re-lives the 'horror' of a fitness test

Neil and Tina go to Hospital

Neil and Dee - eating chipsAt the request of patients, Tegan and AJ, nurse Deborah Charles from the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske contacted Pirate FM to invite Neil and Tina to enjoy school dinners on a fish and chip Friday - how could they say 'No'?!?!

It seems that teacher Dee's duties might involve feeding patients...from this picture with Neil!

... then Tegan told Neil and Tina about her interest in jewellery.

And AJ is a big gaming fan, as well as loving maths!
