Nat Olivey wins Pirate FM's Cash Mountain with the Stop Smoking Service
![]() |
On Monday August 3rd at 8.40 our three Cash Mountaineers gathered at the Pirate FM studios to hear their final totals revealed live on air.
Grant Batty from Newquay, Natalie Olivey from Padstow and Emma-Jane Wood from Truro had spent the last month working tirelessly in their quest to raise as much money as they could for the Precious Lives Appeal by midnight on August 2nd.
It had been an amazing rollercoaster month for the trio; each of them was mentored by two members of the Pirate FM team and gave it their all as they pulled out all the stops to get the cash rolling in. There had been highs and lows, moments of delight and a few of despair too. Both Emma-Jane and Grant had their fun days rained off, but other parts of their cash generating plan were huge successes.
We must pay tribute to the commitment and passion shown by all three in their pursuit of victory. From the hundreds of applicants on line, we had chosen these three, confident that between them they would raise an impressive wodge of cash. We were not disappointed.
The winner was Natalie Olivey who raised an amazing £8,158
Grant Batty produced an impressive £4,573 and Emma-Jane netted a brilliant £2,623.
Producing a total for The Precious Lives Appeal of £15,355
Natalie wins herself and her family an all expenses luxury holiday in the Rocky Mountains of the USA.
In recognition of their sheer hard work The Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club donated a night's stay with breakfast and free golf to each of our runners up, so they can unwind a little after that superb effort.
Natalie still had one more suprise for us. Her and her family donated another £500 of their own money, to make the total raised for Precious Lives an incredible £15,855.

Here are our Cash Mountaineers just after the announcement with mentors Fleckers and Emma Carton.

Emma-Jane Wood
Emma-Jane from Truro is always up for a challenge having previously raised monies for various charities by holding raffles, dinner & dance events, completing a sky dive and the London Marathon - the latter two as a bet! Now she's helped us to raise a whopping £15'355 for the Precious Lives Appeal... an amazing effort!
Emma Carton and Tristan Hunkin from our news team were her mentors.
"I'd like to thank everyone who supported me and my events in my quest to raise money for this excellent charity. At the end of the day it's the Precious Lives Appeal who are the winners".

A TOTALLY PANTS IDEA:
On the first Friday of the challenge I phoned the management team at the Tamar Bridge and put a rather bizarre fundraising event to them. I wanted to string a massive washing line across the bridge from Plymouth to Cornwall and hang a load of pants on it sent in by listeners! Unbelievably they said YES and Radio Thong 2009 was born. Hundred of listeners donated their pants and made my final challenge an absolute sight to see. Lots of people came to the Brunel Pub in Saltash who kindly produced a buffet on the day... not to mention all the last minute donations of pants and pounds. Thanks to everyone who supported my campaign and as much as I'm looking forward to a night at the Lanhydrock Golf Hotel and Country Club, it's the Precious Lives who are the winners!
RADIO THONG:

EDEN ON THE TAMAR:

HERE'S HOW I RAISED MY MONEY:
CHALLENGING TIMES: THE PIRATE FM GARDEN PARTY
In all the rush to raise cash for the Precious Lives Appeal, I've been letting my mentors, Tristan Hunkin and Emma Carton, off too lightly. Sure they've given me plenty of help and advice along the way but I thought it was time I challenged them to do something they might not like to much to raise even more money. Being the good sports that they are they agreed.
Pirate FM newsreader Emma Carton had to sit in a bath of beans while people paid to tip them over her head.

I also challenged Tristan Hunkin to get his legs waxed!
Bev the Boss stumped up twenty quid to tear off the first wax strip, here I am as we were getting Triss ready with the beautician who volunteered to help us out.

A FEW OTHER EVENTS:
In amongst planning the Garden Party and Radio Thong, I also managed to squeeze in 2 nights at Westworld Racing, a Race Night at Strikers Bar in Truro, a sponsored walk, supermarket pants evenings, a golf competition at Cape Cornwall Golf and Leisure Resort and another skydive at the Cornish Parachute Club!
JUMPING MAD:

Lastly I want to say a big thank-you to all the organisations that helped me along the way and acted as pants drop-off points. Without you... and you all know who you are... I couldn't have raised £2623 for Precious Lives.

Natalie Olivey
Enthusiastic 19 year old Natalie from Padstow has just completed 3 years of A-levels and taken part in lots of fundraising in & out of 6th form, she's couldn't wait to get stuck into the challenge of organising her own events & raising as much money as possible for the Precious Lives Appeal.
In the future Natalie hopes to become a midwife and plans to travel to Africa to help people less fortunate than herself, but only after she's helped charities closer to home first!
"Having helped out at NCT antenatal classes I know just how precious childrens lives are to their parents and I am therefore dedicated to helping the Precious Lives Appeal".
Natalie's mentors were James Martin and James Dundon.
