'The Falmouth Aquarium is looking for help with their fishy friends'
Volunteers help run every aspect of the Aquarium with skill, enthusiasm, dedication, and good humour. If you love to learn, enjoy talking to people, you will be a great volunteer. This is an opportunity to be a part of a new charity in Cornwall so your time will make a huge difference to our growing and evolving organisation.

You don’t have to be an oceanographer or an animal expert—everyone's welcome! If you meet the age requirement and are able to commit to the position, Aquarium staff will train you to do the rest.

We are looking for volunteers for a variety of different jobs from helping us take care of our fish, to reception assistance, to marketing, fundraising events, and other projects.

Are you retired or semi-retired and looking to be active in the community? This is a new and different opportunity for you. We would tailor our needs around your skills set.

Please get in touch with us by emailing falmouthaquarium@gmail.com, with the subject line ‘volunteer’ or ringing us at 01326 212 111. You can always stop by and see us to meet the Falmouth Aquarium Team.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Johanna

The Saffron Run
The Saffron Run is a 'get home' charity challenge which starts in India and will take the team members over 12,000 miles across the world to end up back in Cornwall. The one rule is they can't fly!

This crazy challenge is estimated to take around 4 months.

The main purpose for this great adventure is to raise money and awareness for the charity Parkinson's UK. The experience of such a challenge will not only test the team mates but push them to their limits as they pass through many different climates, terrains and cultures on there journey home.

The route has been thought out and designed to be a testing and exciting experience. It starts in the South of India where the team will first have to battle the length of the country by driving an Auto-Rickshaw (other wise known as a lawnmower with 3 wheels) all the way up the east coast until they hit the delightful tea plantations in the North. After this the team will turn right and battle a bit of South East Asia to end up in China. By hiking, biking and using some good old public transport. Once they eventually arrive in China, it is then a long journey following the original Silk route across Russia and back to the multi-cultural hub of Europe. Then the team have to get their compass out as they will be hiking all the way back to the UK. Home Sweet Home, when they eventually make it.

The charity that has been chosen is very close to their hearts as one of the team members had a father who suffered from the disease for over 20 years. Therefore there is a big aim to raise thousands of pounds for the charity Parkinson's UK. So please give as much as you can to help make a big difference.

Dive Museum
DIVE into one man’s life spent on the bottom of the sea.Yacht Haven Quay’s (YHQ) Dry stack marina in Plymouth is usually charged with the secure undercover storage of hundreds of boats. It is now the permanent home to a different kind of treasure, a Dive Museum, which houses a Davy Jones’ locker packed full of amazing artifacts and curios which have been thrown into the sea and shepherded back onto land over the last 50 years by former Royal Marine and Commercial diver Ray Ives.Monty Hall, BBC TV presenter and marine biologist, will officially open “Ray’s Plaice” in its new central location within YHQ on Thursday, 22nd August 2013. Having dived since 1966, his career in the marines, as part of a salvage crew and as a diving instructor at Fort Bovisand has amassed a wealth of expertise and ‘many a tale to tell; from fighting oil fires in The Gulf of Mexico and avoiding the sexual advances of dolphins to swimming with penguins. Ray’s Dive Museum has now been permanently relocated to a central location at Yacht Haven Quay and is open to members of the public.“There is no charge to wander in and meet Ray and his spoils, but with the opening hours a bit ad hoc, it’s best to phone the YHQ office on 01752 481 190 in advance if you’re planning to make a special visit” adds Dylan.
