Pet and Miranda's Autumn Stroll
Miranda and I have been associated with HRFC (now a charity) for over 30 years and have also been involved with the Periwinkles (Lymphoma Association Rugby Team) since its inception.
We wish to raise funds for both charities by walking the 330 miles from Hitchin to Falmouth over a 19 day period.
If you sponsor us via virginmoneygiving.com you will be supporting the continued redevelopment of the facilities at Hitchin for the use of over 500 children and 200 amateur
adult rugby players or if you donate on www.justgiving.com you can help to continue research into treatment of Lymphoma.
We would love you to split any donations equally between the two charities but appreciate any donations that sit well with your own personal experiences and conscience.
Thank you for your support!

Living Well Courses
A CORNISHWOMAN who passed away from breast cancer in April is funding several life-changing courses to help other Cornish patients and their carers for free.

Mum-of-two Karen Shaw, of Truro, was ‘so impressed’ by Penny Brohn Cancer Care’s flagship Living Well course at its National Centre in Bristol in 2014, she started fundraising.

Karen, 67, worked determinedly to fundraise so Penny Brohn could run the courses in Cornwall and, close to her death, was happy knowing her work would come to fruition.

Penny Brohn is delighted to run Living Well courses in the county, including Karen’s home city, in September and October – thanks to her relentless fundraising.

Event co-ordinator Viv Morris said: “Karen was a remarkable woman, who passionately believed in a whole person approach to cancer care.

“We’re extremely grateful to Karen, her family and friends, who’ve helped raise enough money so others in Cornwall can benefit from a free Living Well course.”

Courses take place at The Queens Hotel, Penzance, from Wednesday-Friday, September 23-25, and Epiphany House, Truro, from Wednesday-Friday, October 21-23.

They run from 10am-4pm, with lunch and refreshments included.

Viv added: “The course is designed to complement medical treatment by providing a range of self-care information.

“It explores the impact of cancer on the whole person – mind, body, spirit and emotions, before, during and after medical treatment.

“People can make simple lifestyle changes to areas including healthy eating, exercise, and managing stress and emotions through relaxation, meditation and imagery.

“Importantly, people with cancer and their carers can meet others in a similar position and share experiences.”

Penny Brohn is the UK’s leading charity offering a Whole Person Approach – focused on the person and supporter’s mind, body, spirit and emotions, before, during and after treatment.

With over 35 years’ experience, it wants to reach as many people as possible, but relies on donations.

To sign up or for more information call 01275 370100, email bookings@pennybrohn.org or visit www.pennybrohncancercare.org/living-well

Dive Museum
DIVE into one man’s life spent on the bottom of the sea.Yacht Haven Quay’s (YHQ) Dry stack marina in Plymouth is usually charged with the secure undercover storage of hundreds of boats. It is now the permanent home to a different kind of treasure, a Dive Museum, which houses a Davy Jones’ locker packed full of amazing artifacts and curios which have been thrown into the sea and shepherded back onto land over the last 50 years by former Royal Marine and Commercial diver Ray Ives.Monty Hall, BBC TV presenter and marine biologist, will officially open “Ray’s Plaice” in its new central location within YHQ on Thursday, 22nd August 2013. Having dived since 1966, his career in the marines, as part of a salvage crew and as a diving instructor at Fort Bovisand has amassed a wealth of expertise and ‘many a tale to tell; from fighting oil fires in The Gulf of Mexico and avoiding the sexual advances of dolphins to swimming with penguins. Ray’s Dive Museum has now been permanently relocated to a central location at Yacht Haven Quay and is open to members of the public.“There is no charge to wander in and meet Ray and his spoils, but with the opening hours a bit ad hoc, it’s best to phone the YHQ office on 01752 481 190 in advance if you’re planning to make a special visit” adds Dylan.
