The owner of a horse which drowned at Marazion is urging other riders to think twice about taking their animals into the sea.

Bonnie Reynolds from Penzance launched a desperate rescue operation to reach Charlie when he panicked during a swim.

But she tells Pirate FM she could not reach him in time: "A really horrific thing to have to witness. Emotionally terrible. I was frantically swimming; it got to the point where I watched his head go under and I was deep myself. I knew I had to get back to the shore as did my friend. We were struggling and it was a terrible situation.

"Instinct kicks in and they will just swim towards the horizon because it's the one solid thing that they can see. They haven't got the ability without ground underneath them to turn themselves around so they can only swim in a straight line and unfortunately he swam to his death in front of my daughter, myself, my friend and her children."
