LISTEN: Argyle Boss: 'We Push for Promotion'
7:01am 3rd August 2013
The Plymouth Argyle boss says he is aiming for the play-offs.
The Pilgrims are getting their league two campaign under way with a trip to Southend on Saturday afternoon.
Marvin Morgan is among six players who could make their debut at Roots Hall, whilst former Truro goalie Luke McCormick could make his second Home Park bow.
John is keen to play a more attacking type of play this season and has already set his sights as high as the play-offs.
Guy Branston and Andres Gurrieri are the unlucky duo to miss out from injury whilst Maxime Blanchard remains suspended following his sending off at Rochdale in the final game of last season.
John told Pirate FM: "I can make that clear - we're going to try to attack teams. Hopefully we're going to score goals, because scoring goals will win you football matches.
"At the same time I'm not stupid enough to take defensive responsibilities away from the team. So we've got to stay focused."
Around a thousand members of the green army are expected to take the trip to Southend for this afternoon's game. John added: "I know we'll get support you don't have to tell me that. I'm expecting a big crowd from our lot and they'll get right behind the team like they always do.
"So let's hope they go and perform like we did last time we played there, which was an excellent performance and an excellent result which helped us stay up. If we go in there and give that performance we'll have a good chance of getting something from the game."
