The family of a teenager who fell almost a 100ft from cliffs at Newquay have told Pirate FM that he slipped having a cigarette.

15 year old Georgie Mitchell from Truro suffered serious leg injuries, multiple breaks and a fractured eye socket after it happened at Great Western Beach.

He was airlifted to Derriford last night.

Watch Officer at Falmouth Coastguard, Alex Greg, said: "Cliff edges are always dangerous no matter what time of day it is. We can't speculate what they were doing in the area but people at that time of night probably aren't paying the closest attention to their surroundings so be safe, don't go near a cliff edge and just make sure you're aware of your surroundings at all times."

Georgie's brother Alfie said: "I'd like to make a dedication about my brother Georgie Mitchell 15 from Truro about falling ogg a cliff in Newquay. Get well soon, keep up the fight, lots of love from your big brother Alfie. I would also like to warn other people, 'stay away from cliffs' - I don't want to see this happen to anyone else."
