Driver and Staff Praised for 'Saving Pub'
7:01am 11th December 2013
A delivery driver is hailed a hero after spotting a big blaze in Polzeath.
More than twenty firefighters from Wadebridge, Delabole and Padstow tackled the flames at a pub yesterday lunchtime.
Teams say it could have destroyed the building if staff had not contained it by shutting off the laundry room.
The cause of the fire on the waterfront is not thought to be suspicious.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire could have been a lot worse had it not been for a delivery driver who saw the smoke and raised the alarm and also for the staff at the public house, who ensured that the door to the room where the fire was located was shut which prevented the fire from spreading and potentially destroying the building."7:01am 11th December 2013
