Seals washed up on beaches in south-east Cornwall spark a marine appeal.

Campaigners are worried after the creatures were spotted surrounded by plastic at Whitsand and Cawsand Bay

Claire Wallerstein from the Rame Peninsula Beach Group gave this warning: "Seals are a little bit like dogs and when they're young they're very playful and very inquisitive. There's a lot of plastic out there and they will play with it and they often get it wrapped around their necks so as the seal grows it starts digging in tighter and tighter and tighter and it can cause the most horrible wealds and infections and sometimes death.

"The other day I picked up a washing up liquid bottle which said 4d off. So I don't know when it was we switched to metric money but I think it was over 40 years ago so you can see how long this stuff stays out there."
