New Flood Defences For Looe?

Pirate FM has learnt there are new plans to protect Looe from flooding.
The Environment Agency is proposing new harbour walls, demountable defences and pump systems.
It will cost five point two million pounds - of which Cornwall needs to pay around half.
But experts reckon it will mean the town only floods once every 200 years.
Debbie Jones runs a sweet shop: "People who live here would feel a lot better. People would be more willing to come down and buy businesses and stay in businesses. If you had an outer harbour you could have a marine business down here.
"Once the water goes it's the aftermath. It's all the cleaning up and the trying to get back to normal. But people in Looe are extremely resilient and very brave and you will see those people open up their shops within a couple of hours and they're off and away again."
Steve Marks from The Environment Agency said: "We'd like to see flood risk reduced for the town but we'd also like to see support to the wider regeneration of Looe. So, further support for the local economy, an enhancement to the tourism industry and enhancement to the fishing industry and just see some positive economic regeneration.
"Flooding has an impact on people's homes but it also has obviously a wider impact on people's livelihoods. We can't say for sure that this was caused by climate change but we know that we are seeing more frequent storms. We really need to be prepared and to do everything we can to reduce this risk."
