Cornish Castle Up For Rent
7:01am 16th April 2014
Could you be the next resident of a Cornish castle?
Trematon is located on the banks of the Tamar near Saltash and was once used to store Sir Francis Drake's Spanish loot.
It is on the rental market for £850, 000 but that will only buy you use of the site for twenty years.
The property includes a large Georgian house within the castle walls, a swimming pool, keep, eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
The market value is around £3 million.
Richard Speedy is from Knight Frank estate agents, which is leasing the property.
He said: "It's a twenty year lease that the Duchy are granting to the next new owner.
"It's a very historic building, it was mentioned in the Dooms Day book, and it has some quite interesting links to Sir Francis Drake. He had a gallion called the Golden Hind and he stored treasure in the gatehouse.
"It is the history that surrounds the property that makes it special.
"It has nice views that look down over the countryside and then down to the Tamar, it's a very accessible location, it's only about a mile, a mile and a half to get to Saltash and obviously very close to Plymouth as well."7:01am 16th April 2014
