Is Cornwall A Boomtown For Rats?
6:01am 17th April 2014
A family from Penryn says they have caught a rat half a metre long - eating dog food.
They were expecting to find a mouse, when they put down traps in the shed.
Instead they discovered the giant rodent - and took a picture.
The man holding it by the tail in the picture is 6ft 1in.
Daughter-in-law Kirstie Rollaston told The West Briton: "They knew they had rats, but had no idea it was this size.
"My father-in-law couldn't believe it - he just thought 'bloody hell'. He had never seen anything like it.
"They live right by the Penryn River so I think that might have been where it came from.
"The dog was very afraid of it - she was cowering away when she say it."
She says it was a one-off - and there have been no more sightings since.
There have been a spate of sightings of so-called "super rats" across the UK.
Pest control experts think it could be partly down to the wet weather and floods, forcing them out of the sewers.6:01am 17th April 2014
