Parents Urged to Give HPV Jab
8:01am 18th May 2014
Cornish parents are urged to give their daughters the HPV jab.
NHS statistics show only around two thirds of Duchy schoolgirls are getting the vaccine against cervical cancer.
Nationally rates need to be at 90 percent.
It is going to be rolled out in schools this autumn to make it easier.
But James Bolt from Public Health England says don't wait till then, he said: "This is a really safe, very effective vaccine, parents should think about the long term health and protection they offer to their children, so GP services are very good, very high quality and they are running now, so go along to your GP and book an appointment.
"Ultimately this programme saves lives, I would encourage parents of those children who have not started the programme or are only part way through it, to actually book into the GP practices now and make sure they are properly protected."8:01am 18th May 2014
