With two weeks to go until her holiday, a Truro mum has been told that her family's passports may not arrive in time.

Kerry Carruthers could have to cancel the trip to Holland.

She has already been waiting for nine weeks.

The government has drafted in extra staff to help clear a backlog of 30 thousand applications.

Kerry tells Pirate FM the whole family are worried: "It's upsetting the children because obviously they're looking forward to going, we've made plans, we've bought clothes, we've got holiday money paid for, you can't claim on insurance, you can't get the money back; it's obviously an awful lot of money to lose.

"We did everything they said. We did it online, we paid for the check and send service, we sent it in plenty of time, I double and triple and quadruple checked everything. They've even said when we phoned there's no problems at all with the application, it's a really straight forward application - it's just caught in the system."
