Free Childcare Places
5:13pm 4th September 2014
A Cornish pre-school tells a government minister it has had to turn children away because struggling parents could not afford places.
Business Secretary Vince Cable has been talking about those free childcare plans in Newquay.
The Lib Dems say they will pay for all two year olds to have fifteen hours, if they win the next election: "It's the help for the parents struggling to make do on their wages and secondly there is a lot of educational research which shows that when toddlers are able to go into a preschool environment it does significantly improve their development.
"Because it's a low wage area this really matters and I think one of the points that the pre-school has been telling me is that in the past they have had to turn people away because they haven't been able to fund the places."
Mr Cable also visited the Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre at Treliske to see how Cornwall is supporting entrepreneurs.
