Crews from Penzance, Helston and St Ives have been scrambled to a huge barn fire near Marazion.

Fire Control has told Pirate FM the blaze on farm land started on Thursday afternoon and no houses are involved.

Fire fighters are working to stop it spreading to nearby trees.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "At this time (17.30pm) CFRS are attending a large barn fire just outside Marazion near Penzance.

"2 appliances from Penzance 1 from St Ives and a water carrier from Helston are on scene.

"The barn is about 20m x 10m and containing 700 straw bales and is well alight.

"At this time crews are boundary cooling to protect nearby trees is being carried out using hose reel jets.

"It is likely that the barn will be allowed to burn out under CFRS supervision."
