An elderly woman has plunged twenty feet to her death from cliffs in Newquay.
Emergency crews were scrambled to Porth on Monday afternoon.
We are told a dog walker found the unconscious woman in the back of a cave just after 3pm.
That led to the air ambulance being scrambled to get her from Porth island to the Royal Cornwall, but doctors could not save her.
One witness says she was wearing an alarm call pendant round her neck.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The Coastguard and police were called to Porth Beach, Newquay, at 3.20pm on 29th September after reports of a woman found unconscious in a cave.
"The woman, aged in her eighties and from Newquay, is believed to have fallen from the cliffs above near to Whipsderry beach.
"She was taken to Treliske for treatment where sadly she later died.
"Her next of kin have been informed and a file is now being prepared for the Coroner."8:58am 30th September 2014
