A six foot high poppy has started a 300 mile journey through Cornwall.

It is as the Royal British Legion launches this year's poppy appeal.

It is being towed from HMS Raleigh in Torpoint to Truro by a convoy of soldiers and veterans.

Annie Binding from the Legion told Pirate FM they are aiming to raise half a million in the Duchy: "Last year our poppy appeal raised almost £490,000 so I have no doubt that the people of Cornwall will once again dig deep and put some money in those collection tins.

"Just think of what our servicemen and women have done and still do today. They need your support, just like we do, and the legion cares for not only those people who've served but their families also."
