One person has died and another is seriously hurt after two crashes on the A30.

One happened near Redruth, when a car and lorry hit on Friday evening.

Police say one person did not survive.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service added: "On receipt of this call, appliances from Redruth and Camborne and the rescue tender from Camborne were mobilised.

"On arrival the crews found the incident involved a car and a light goods vehicle. Crews gave assistance at the scene. The A30 was closed for a considerable time."

The other crash caused big jams between Launceston and Okehampton after two cars collided near Lifton.

Officers said a woman had sustained "serious injuries" and was treated at the scene.

She was transferred to hospital where her injuries were described as "potentially life-changing."

The carriageway was closed for several hours after it happened at around 2pm but was reopened by 10pm.
