Rough Sleeping Warning As Cold Weather Hits

A Newquay man left homeless tells Pirate FM "you just become hardened to it".
The number of people sleeping rough at Christmas in Cornwall has dropped this year.
Charity The St Petroc's Society has helped around a hundred people over the festive period.
But it is warning that number could rise in the new year as cuts bite.
Baz spent twelve years on the streets. He said: "It's extremely cold. Even inside it gets cold if you don't have the central heating on, but outside - waking up in the frost and the snow - it really does play on your health.
"It's extremely frightening when it happens to you initially.
"I used to beg - it was the only way to get by. The number of people you see who grab hold of their handbag and cross over the other side of the road."
Richard Bryant works for St Petroc's. He said: "I think we only have to look out of the window at two o'clock in the morning when the wind is howling and it's pouring with rain. It's very difficult to get yourself warm and dry again once you're in that situation.
"Homelessness is a problem all year round. But there is more of a focus on homeless people around Christmas - trying to get people away from the streets.
"I think it is more noticeable in the winter because it is colder and darker. Clients find it far harder to cope during that period."6:06am 2nd January 2015
