We are being warned closing the main road into Looe for three months will "floor" local businesses.

The council wants to shut a stretch of the B3253 from January until April, while a big housing development is built.

Locals say it will hit traders and leave drivers facing a diversion of up to ten miles.

Graham Brooks runs a hotel in the town, and would directly affected by the closure: "There is no other way to get to Barclay House other than St Martins Road. Now, we're a seasonal business. Some might say that January to March is the best time to do it. But it's not, because like all seasonal businesses, we need our winter trade more than anything."

"Three years ago, when we were in the same position, our trade went down by half. Now, you can't recover that trade. We had to let people know who had booked with us, that they wouldn't be able to access us. We're going to have to do that again, and it just disrupt the perception of their stay here in Cornwall."
