Last Minute Dash for Cornish High Streets
7:01am 24th December 2011
Cornish high streets hope for one last sales boost before Christmas.
Some have already started slashing prices to get us spending.
It is as the last minute dash for presents gets underway.
But it is feared the squeeze on our purses will hit the tills.
Linda Marshall manages Mounts Bay Trading in Truro and says shoppers are more cautious:
“They’re taking more time to buy. They obviously want good value for money which I do when I’m shopping Whether or not we’ll have a surge and have a really good day, who knows. But on the whole it’s been pretty good”
“ With it [Christmas Eve] being a Saturday it could be a really, really good day. It’s very difficult to tell because in a year the economic climate’s changed so much, people now want to pay bills, put food on the table etc. So, I think we may get a last minute rush”
Pirate FM asked shoppers in Truro if they were ready yet:
“I’m ready for it, I’m all done. This is the first year I’ve been organised
“ Panic buying is easier. You don’t have to plan it, just do it”
“I’m a really organised person but when it comes to Christmas I’m too manic”
“If I’m anywhere other than a pub or at home on Christmas Eve, it’s my idea of hell”
