A ward is set to stay shut at the West Cornwall hospital for the rest of the winter.

Health bosses say it is to make sure services at Treliske are kept going. They insist the decision is reviewed every month.

In a report being presented to councillors new Chief Executive of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Lezli Boswell writes, "RCHT is committed to a vibrant West Cornwall Hospital providing a range of urgent, medical and surgical care. We have continued to consider the reopening of the additional medical ward at West Cornwall Hospital. Formally, this is discussed at our board on a monthly basis.

"Our current assessment is that, subject to ongoing review, the trust must maintain additional capacity at the Royal Cornwall Hospital throughout the winter."

Campaigners say it is disappointing but not surprising.
