Half of Cornish smokers trying to quit, will cave by the end of this week.

That is according to research, which claims many just go cold turkey.

Almost one in ten admits getting so desperate they will take money from their children's piggy bank.

James from Penzance tried to kick the habit, but failed: "It is will power at the end of the day, so again I think it's a mental attitude that will get you through it, rather than, I don't think you necessarily need all the gum and patches. I think that if you're strong enough to do it, then you can.

"It's stressful and, sort of, caused problems at work, being angry and that sort of thing. And you need something to substitute it with and I didn't find that, but again, I do need to be a hundred per cent into it to do it."
