Petrol Prices To Reach 'Record High'

Posted 2:52pm 27th January 2012.

There could be more pain at the petrol pumps for Cornish drivers.

It is claimed fuel prices will rocket to their highest level ever by the end of the month.

Industry experts RMI Petrol say global factors are to blame.

Duchy business advisor Roger Toms racks up around 700 miles a week.

He says rising prices are forcing him to drive less:

"What I've had to on a personal basis, is cut my mileage down as much as possible and change my car from a petrol to a diesel. Instead of driving around unnecessarily as you have done in the past, you have to be very much planning ahead about where you're going. All about cutting back really."

Roger is hoping the government will step in to stop price spiralling even higher: "Of course there's got to be a cap, because in a rural area such as we are, there's going to be a situation where, in a minute, it's going to affect business. It is already to a certain extent, so it's got to come to an end."
