Cornwall honours its Local Heroes.

At a glittering ceremony the people who make a difference to lives in the Duchy have been revealed.

They include Kayleigh Bray from Redruth whose work with young people has kept them out of trouble on the streets.

And seven year old Oceanna Thomas who, despite a kidney transplant, has dedicated herself to raising money for other poorly children.

Also awarded at the Pirate FM bash in Newquay, Linda and Colin Wheeldon who have fostered 38 children in the last seven years:

Colin said:

"We wanted to give something back to other people. Because it's not just the children, it's the parents and even the grandparents that it can affect as well."

"You do this thing but you don't think you're going to get recognised for it. But it nice to get something like this"

The couple also scooped the winner of winners award.

Bravery Award - Sophie Moss from Blackwater

Cornish Coastal Rescue Award - David Jackson MBE from the Land's End Cliff Rescue service


Sports Achievement - Matthew Robinson

Carer of the Year - Lynn Bartrip-Kay

Parent/Guardian of the Year - Colin and Linda Wheeldon from Newquay

Inspiration to Others - Kayleigh Bray from Redruth

Good Neighbour Award - Darren Longar from Camborne

Fundraiser of the Year - Iris Billing from St Austell

Environmental Award - Vaghan Curnow

Young Person of the Year  - 21 year old Hannah Underhill

Emergency Services Award - Dr Aylur Rajasri and Team

Teacher of the Year - Nicky Sutton , teacher of expressive arts at St Francis C of E in Falmouth

Boss of the Year - Neil Slade at the Greenlawns Hotel in Falmouth

Winner of Winners - Colin and Linda Wheeldon from Newquay

Lifetime Achievement Award - Eddie Farwell, founder of Children's Hospices South West.
