Cornwall Urged To Boost Disabled Sport Numbers
1:49pm 21st May 2012
Cornwall is being urged to get more disabled people playing sport.
It is 100 days until the Paralympic Games start.
Now Sport England are launching an £8 million fund.
Duchy organisations are being invited to bid for part of it.
It is as it is revealed only one in six disabled adults are playing sport regularly, compared to one in three non-disabled adults.
Disabled North Cornwall mum of five Mary-Jane Peterson is backing it:
"Some disabled people may need either special equipment, or they might to pay somebody to go with them to do the sport. For me, I love swimming. When I'm in the water, I'm like a fish. But when I'm out of the water, I need help getting dried, dressed.
"A lot of disabled people would like to do the sport, but are unable because they need assistance. Some people need to be cared for 24/7, they need to be driven to places."1:49pm 21st May 2012
