Final Public Meeting Over Penzance Urgent Care Centre
2:46pm 22nd May 2012
Locals in Penwith get their last chance to have a say over plans for 24-hour doctor cover at the West Cornwall Hospital.
A final public meeting is being held over Penzance's new urgent care centre.
It would bring casualty, a GP clinc and upgraded diagnostic services together under one roof.
Joe McKenna, Chair of Health Initiative Cornwall, is calling on people to back it:
"A lot of the work they're carrying out under this set up will be enhanced, more people can be treated down here than in the past. That means fewer journeys up to Treliske, and I think that means the future of West Cornwall hospital is more secure.
"It's the first time for a long while that they have guaranteed we will have at least one doctor, if not many more, on duty twenty-four hours, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty-five days a year; major step forward.
The most seriously ill patients will still have to be treated at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
They include those with chest pains, acute shortage of breath, stokes, head injuries with loss of consciousness, sever abdominal pain and all severely ill children.
The meeting will be held at St Ives Guildhall on Street An Pol, St Ives at 6.30pm.
