6:01am 27th June 2012
A teenage windsurfer has been rescued after winds threatened to dash him onto rocks at Falmouth.
The thirteen year old boy was dragged back to shore by a lifeguard at Gyllyngvase on Saturday.
The boy on holiday from Germany was windsurfing at about 3pm in force six cross shore winds when he drifted near to rocks The charity says he was tiring in the conditions.
RNLI lifeguard Sam Crowther spotted what was happening as he patrolled the beach. He immediately grabbed a rescue board and paddled to his aid approximately 200metres away.
Sam said. "At first I had him on his own board holding the back of mine and tried to paddle him to safety. This proved to be slow progress as we were both being pushed towards the rocks by the waves and wind.
"I decided it would be safer for the both of us to leave his windsurf kit, place him on the rescue board and paddle him to safety."
