Cornish Schoolgirl Saves Dad's Life
6:00am 4th July 2012
A Cornish schoolgirl has saved her dad's life.
Maria Rowe from Illogan leapt into action when dad John collapsed at home, giving him CPR until paramedics arrived.
Maria told Pirate FM, "I started watching some TV and I heard this strange breathing noice. I ran in and I shouted 'Daddy, daddy, can you hear me?' It was like he was sleeping but he was breathing funny.
"I phoned the ambulance and I was a bit scared so I started shouting down the phone and he told me to calm down. I answered the questions then my mum came home and she started panicking. Then the man asked me if I could do CPR and I said yes.
"After the third cycle my dad breathed back to me and the paramedics were here. I felt happy, because there might be hope."

Sixty-four year old John is now recovering at Treliske. Maria said, "He calls me his little hero."
Her mum Saras said, "What Maria did was absolutely amazing. She was calm and took control as I didn’t know what to do. We are so proud of what she did and will be forever thankful that Maria had been taught first aid."
The Trewirgie School pupil has learned first aid as a member of the Redruth Badger Sett for the last four years. The club is run by St John Ambulance.
Dave Christophers from the charity said, "We are delighted that Maria put everything she had learnt into action - she was calm during what must have been a harrowing experience and delivered CPR with the advice and encouragement of the emergency call operator.
"I don’t think she realises the importance of what she has done and calmly went to school the next morning as if nothing had happened.
"This incident highlights the importance of first aid – it really can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved."
