New Milk Price Warning
8:02am 29th July 2012
Cornish dairy farmers have insisted we should not have to pay more for our milk.
It comes after they struck a deal to get more bargaining power with supermarkets over prices.
Chris Cardell farms near Probus. He said: "We're not looking for a fortune. If we look through the analysis of what's being charged in the supermarkets and the shops at the moment, there's enough actually in the system that the actual consumer probably shouldn't see any price increase at all. There's enough in the system. It's just that there's too large a chunk being held by a few.
Chris is waning too many people leaving the industry would hit the countryside hard. He said: "Especially here in Cornwall, you know the green and pleasant land. We make a lot of our surroundings, why we want to live here, and if we haven't a viable agriculture in the rural environment, that's not going to be maintained unfortunately."
