Four Year Old Boy Falls from Cliffs
3:35pm 30th July 2012
(Updated 3:35pm 30th July 2012)
A little boy has been airlifted to hospital after plunging from cliffs in south east Cornwall.
The four year old slipped at Tregonhawke. Rescuers feared he had spinal injuries after landing on rocks.
They scrambed a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose to get him to hospital in Plymouth. Doctors at Derriford say he will be OK.
Right now Tregonhawke does not have lifeguard cover because of a stand off between the RNLI and chalet owners over insurance.
The local MP Sheryll Murray says that has got to be sorted, and fast:
"When I was a child, going down to that beach, you know, there has always been provision. One of my concerns now is we are seeing the beaches used more, and there could be a really bad injury there.
"These incidents at the weekend didn't involve anybody getting into difficulty in the water, but we all know that if somebody does get into difficulties, particularly with these very strong rip currents, then minutes matter."
