An eight year old is recovering after the car he was sitting in was stolen in Launceston.

The thief grabbed it when his mum popped into a shop on Duston Road yesterday afternoon.

The thief stopped the VW Golf shortly after taking it, to let the little boy out.

But it prompted a police car chase which ended in a crash with another car on the A39 outside Camelford.

The other driver escaped with cuts and bruises but the man behind the wheel of the Golf has ended up with suspected spinal injuries.

The whole episode has now been voluntarily referred to the Police Complaints Commission.
