Cornish MP Claims Regional Pay "Could Be Illegal"

Plans that could see Cornish doctors and nurses work longer for less money go to the competition watchdog.
Duchy MP Stephen Gilbert claims what Treliske and 19 other South West hospital trusts are doing could be illegal.
He has referred them to the Office of Fair Trading:
“We don’t want to be seeing a race to the bottom - we need to be seeing a sprint to the top. My concern is that the plans the NHS Trusts have will certainly be damaging to the thousands of people who we rely on to provide out health service.
“They can’t on the one hand want to be part of the NHS and yet on the other hand act as independent units. We don’t want to see regional pay and we don’t want to see hard working nurses and others in our health service losing out”
This as officials meet to discuss regional pay, empty hospital beds and Cornwall's out of hours doctors.3:27pm 13th November 2012
