Cornwall's sky high water bills will get cheaper from April.

South West Water has confirming that is when a £50 a year discount will kick in.

The Prime Minister first laid out plans to slash how much we pay last year.

It will mean an investment of £40m in the region, which has some of the highest water bills in the country.

Customer Relations Director Monica Read said: “This is a great achievement and thanks to everyone including MPs of all parties, Defra, the Consumer Council for Water, pensioner groups and the regional media who together with thousands of individual customers have helped make the case for the region alongside us over many years for this reduction.
“Household customers will have the reduction automatically and clearly applied to their bills from next April. They need take no action, just look out for the line ‘Government Contribution’ on your bill during 2013/14."

The reduction will last till at least 2020 but consumer groups say by then it will already have been completely wiped out by more price rises.

They are calling for a long term solution to the problem.
