Ice Warning for Cornwall
8:39am 21st January 2013
(Updated 8:39am 21st January 2013)
Forecasters are warning of ice on untreated roads in Cornwall.
Snow has fallen in west Cornwall overnight - with temperatures below freezing.
Gritters have been treating roads since 4am.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Sub-zero overnight temperatures will lead to ice forming where snow has fallen or melted during Sunday. In addition there is the risk of further localised snowfalls of some 1-3 cm in places during Monday with a low risk of as much as 5 cm. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel during this continuing spell of wintry weather."
The worst of this snow is expected to miss Cornwall, as a band of rain sweeps up behind.
But it is feared that, combined with freezing temperatures and left over slush could leave some routes dangerous, especially as unprepared drivers turn off main routes kept clear by gritting.
There is expected to be more sleet and light snow overnight into Tuesday. The Met Office says it's yellow severe weather warning will extend into tomorrow.
