Computer Scam Warning

Pirate FM's learnt people in Cornwall are falling victim to a computer virus scam.

Cold callers are offering to fix made-up problems on our PCs or laptops.

In reality it is a ploy to access our personal information.

Elizabeth Kirk from Trading Standards says several residents have even handed over money:

"Potentially though they have access to all of your e-mails, all of your family photos perhaps any passwords, any online banking that you do. If you are approached by somebody that you do not know do not give them access to your computer. You need to put the phone down.

It's very upsetting. Unfortunately the scam is very well set up and very believable.  You'll be phoned at home and told that there's a problem with your internet and of course it's all very believable because it is all happening in front of them. By that point it is probably too late."
