The Plymouth Argyle boss admits his side must play better to escape relegation.

John Sheridan's side host Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday afternoon.

But the Pilgrims are only hovering above the drop zone thanks to goal difference.

Speaking about last weekend's draw against Accrington, Sheridan said: "We didn't play well, I know we didn't play well and I don't want my team going out and performing like that. I think it's just staying together and taking the positives out of the game, which were the clean sheet.

"I know we can do that, but if we do it for longer periods, we'll win more than we lose."

The Pilgrims signed Crystal Palace winger Jason Banton during the end of January transfer window.

Sheridan added, he was hoping the new recruit could help the struggling team: "He's a young player, very exciting. I spoke to people about him and he's just someone I think we needed.

"He's someone who'll run at people and he'll get us high up the pitch. I'm just pleased to get him in and hopefully he'll come in and get us one or two results."
