Cornwall's Debt Reality
3:21pm 4th February 2013
Pirate FM has learnt more than half of people in Cornwall regularly fall into of debt.
One in three has dipped into their life savings to pay the bills according to a new survey.
Many are hiding the problem.
It is being blamed on rising food prices and pay freezes.
Psychologist Corinne Sweet said: "People might have sleepless nights, they might have health problems, they might have immune deficiencies and of course in the family people shout at their children or fall out with their partners. So there can be huge repercussions to getting in and out of debt.
"What you need to do is be a grown up and say 'OK I have a problem with this'. Once you've looked at it, you will feel better. It's just the same as if you felt a lump somewhere and you went to see the doctor, or if you have pain in the tooth you go and see the dentist. If you leave it, it just gets bigger."
