A man has been beaten with a metal bar by a gang in Newquay.

The thirty year old has been left with cuts and bruises after being set on by the three men on Trevose Avenue at around 8.30pm last night.

Police have revealed to Pirate FM a small handgun was found nearby. But they say there is no truth to a local rumour that shots were fired.

The victim has been left with cuts and bruises to his head and face and bruising to his body.

He was taken to Treliske for treatment but later released.

There have been no arrests and police say their enquiries are continuing.
