'Big Lunch' With Babs
3:23pm 30th April 2013
Cornwall is asked to knock on the neighbours and share a 'Big Lunch'.
Every year Eden organises the mass event across the UK to foster community spirit.
'Carry On' star Barbara Windsor has been at the Biomes to launch its fifth, which will take place this June.
Barbara said: "When I was asked to be an ambassador, I thought that it was a marvellous idea as it's a chance for people to come together as one, get to know each other better and be nosey. I love being nosey and knocking on doors, because I love meeting new people."
Sir Tim Smit, Co-founder of the Eden Project and The Big Lunch said: "Each year more and more people decide to take part in The Big Lunch for no other reason than it is enjoyable. It has sparked off many wonderful things, from neighbourhood watch groups to babysitting circles.
"It's a pleasure to have someone like Barbara getting out there, spreading the world and helping to gather communities together. Wherever you live, in a large city or a tiny hamlet, there is still time to get involved in holding a Big Lunch in your own community."
The Lottery funded Big Lunch is a community initiative by the Eden Project, which aims to get as many people as possible to have lunch with their neighbours on one day a year in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
Since starting in 2009, thousands of communities have thrown their own Big Lunches and last year the Big Jubilee Lunch formed a part of the main Diamond Jubilee programme of events, where eight and a half million people took part in events across the UK.
This year's Big Lunch takes place on June 2nd. Packs including posters, invitations, a planner and other materials to help organise your Big Lunch, are available from www.thebiglunch.com.
