Lanterns have been lit as a tribute to the photographer who drowned at a Cornish beauty spot notorious for whirlpools.
It is understood the man, who is being named locally as Jacob Cockle, was filming at Carnsew Pool in Hayle which was used in Victorian times to flush sand from the harbour.
The 28 old was found face down at around 9pm on Tuesday night.
A video of a whirlpool filmed in Hayle harbour was posted on YouTube last year.
A spokesperson for St Ives lifeboat said: "Being the first Emergency Services on the scene, the volunteer lifeboat crew immediately began giving CPR to the casualty who was unconscious when they arrived at the scene.
"After approximately five minutes the search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose also arrived on scene, after which the casualty was handed to the care of the helicopter crew and taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro."
Doctors were not able to save him.
Lew Smart was among his best friends and known him since school: "You couldn't help but warm to Jacob I think. There was always a smile on the kid's face and I think what it was is he's interested in what you were doing and no matter what that was, he was interested and there's a lot to be said for that.
"If there was one thing everyone could say to Jacob now I think it would be thank-you because he made you feel good and I thank him for inspiring me and pushing me. He was on the same path. He was in the moment and chasing his dream. He'll be sorely missed by everyone who knew him."
A police spokesman added: "If anyone saw or heard anything could they please contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101 and quote AY/13/417 or incident number 775 of 28/05/13."
