Royal Cornwall Show: Visitor Numbers Up
5:03pm 10th June 2013
(Updated 5:03pm 10th June 2013)
The 2013 Royal Cornwall Show has been hailed as a huge success.
More than 118 thousand visitors packed through the gates at Wadebridge on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Numbers were up by four thousand on last year and it is partly being put down to the good weather.
Secretary Christopher Riddle said the show had been a great success in many ways: "Three days of sunshine, a magnificent main arena entertainment programme, over 1,000 quality trade stands and a good entry in livestock and equine classes meant those who attended had a great experience.
"It was a show with a wonderful atmosphere and there was an almost tangible feeling of relief and enjoyment in the air after the depressing weather conditions of recent months and, of course, last year's event."
One of the highlights of this year's show as the visit of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, who had a full programme in the late morning and afternoon. The first hour of her visit was spent attending the annual general meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, of which she is president.
The main ring featured the Kangaroo Kids who thrilled crowds with the quad-bike stunts, and newcomers Gulliver's Carnival - a brand new act with a Victorian equine theme. The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team dropped into the arena in spectacular fashion and their colleagues in the Central Band of the RAF performed on Friday and Saturday.
Stands and exhibits on the showground are now being dismantled and planning will soon begin for the 2014 show, when Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex will be president.
The three days of sunshine were taken full advantage of by the crowds and many might have taken note of the prediction of Titan the Robot who, in a pre-show interview, when asked how he liked Cornwall's climate, said: "Cornwall is very pleasant during the summer, which my sensors tell me is taking place on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June this year - which happily coincides with the Royal Cornwall Show."
Next year's Royal Cornwall Show will take place on the 5th, 6th and 7th June, 2014.
