James Martin

Weekday 9am -2pm

James was born at The Royal Cornwall Hospital, in 1976. By the age of 5 he was presenting TV programmes in front of the mirror. At the age of seven he was given a Network 737 Radio Cassette Recorder - and the making of (terrible) radio began. Whether it was newsreading, playing songs off his record player or big productions involving a handful of friends and including a multitude of sound effects and music - James filled up C90 after C90!

At 16, James began working as a freelance Broadcast Assistant in local radio whilst he did his A Levels. At 19 he started a Modern Apprenticeship (excellent scheme) in Print Production Origination, and achieved NVQ Level 3. During this time the radio bug was still nagging, so he joined Truro Hospital Radio as a volunteer, presenting a weekly show for 5 years, eventually becoming Programme Controller and then Chairman.

In the meantime, he came up with a plan to get his foot in the door of his favourite radio station, by joining the Pirate FM Listener Advisory Panel. This lead to training, some graveyard shifts and eventually cover work for Pirate FM. It developed over the next few years alongside James's full time job at a local print company (conveniently situated 100 metres down the road from the Pirate FM studios).

In February 2005 James was offered a full time position at Pirate FM and took the decision to make the career change to radio.

James lives with his wife, daughter and black and white rescue cat, Elvis. He enjoys socialising, walking, photography and has an active interest in technology, especially computers and the internet.
