Rewarding Awards

27th June 2016

More and more businesses in Cornwall are putting sustainability further up their list of priorities as they realise the importance it holds for ensuring their success, not just now, but also in the future.

But how many of these companies, doing great things in our local area, are shouting out about their work and encouraging others? One way to tell the world and to put yourself on the environmental map is to go for an award.

Here at Pirate FM we were extremely proud to be given a 'Highly Commended' in two categories of this year's Cornwall Sustainability Awards; Best Managed Medium Sized Business and Best Individual Contribution for our Environmental Champion, Rachel Yates.

The aim of Cornwall Sustainability Awards is to encourage, reward and gain recognition for the work businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are doing to improve their own sustainability and that of the area as a whole.

Categories this year include best contribution towards creating a sustainable food economy, best contribution to resource efficiency, best contribution to Cornwall’s ‘brand’ through sustainability and the Theme of 2016, which is best contribution to sustainable land management for environmental growth.

Entries are also open for the 13th Regen SW's Green Energy Awards.

These celebrate the exciting projects, great companies and inspiring people behind the sustainable energy revolution in the south west of England as a whole.

The awards are being judged by a panel of experts, advocates and spokespeople in renewables and sustainability and this year there is a new category, Best Arts and Green Energy Project, sponsored by Institution of Civil Engineers.

Others include Most Proactive Public Sector Organisation, Sustainable Energy Installer of the Year, Best Business Innovation and Best Community Initiative, sponsored by SSEPD

Events like these are a great opportunity to network, learn more from the experts, share best practice and help build on Cornwall's already growing reputation for leading the way on renewable energy and environmental issues.

As sustainable business practice increasingly becomes an integral part of organisations in Cornwall, those who do it well are in a great position to encourage others to take a look at the benefits for their business and our environment, now and for future generations. Think about your staff, your clients and look at your sphere of influence. What difference can you make? Now tell everyone!
