How to Kickstart Your Weight Loss Journey

If you have a lot of weight to lose it can be incredibly overwhelming, with many dieters feeling despondent if they only lose a couple of pounds in the first few weeks. 

Although extreme dieting or weight loss is not recommended by most healthcare professionals, it can be beneficial for you to kickstart your weight loss journey so that you feel motivated enough to carry on with a long-term fitness and healthy eating plan. 

Don’t worry, you won’t have to survive on just air, water and a few veggies either!

There are many ways in which you can kickstart your weight loss journey; you just need to find the right method for you. 

Load up on protein 

Rather than having to look at foods and drinks that you should be avoiding, it can be a lot more motivating to focus on the foods you can eat. As well as an abundance of fruit and vegetables (fresh, dried, frozen - it doesn’t matter), you should also concentrate on eating protein with every meal. 

Protein is known for its ability to increase your metabolism which can help aid weight loss, plus, it can help you to build muscle which is much more effective at burning calories than fat.

Eggs are a great option for breakfast, as is whey protein if you are looking for a quick protein fix. Chicken, lean meat and fish are all good ideas for lunch and dinner.

Reduce your portion sizes 

Again, if you are not ready to completely change your diet but want to lose weight fast, the easiest way to do so is by reducing the size of your meals.

As a rough guide, the average woman will lose a pound a week if they restrict their calorie intake to 1,500 calories per day, and a man will lose a pound a week if they consume 2,000 calories per day. Although, this is dependant on activity levels and your individual metabolism.

It is also a good idea to drink a glass of water before every meal as this should help you to consume less calories. 

If you start to get bored with just plain water, why not add some herbs such as mint, some chopped up citrus fruits, or some cucumber slices? Coconut water is also beneficial, as it is low in calories, plus it is full of bio-active enzymes that can ease digestion and boost your metabolism.
