James Dundon goes back to school - and visits Pool Academy's brand-new Science Labs

Pool AcademyPool Academy had a new student recently – as Pirate FM's James Dundon took part in a science lesson with students from the school.

James came in and spent a lesson with a Year 9 class and learnt about the chemistry of fireworks, the lesson took place in one of the three new science laboratories at the Academy.

The laboratories are part of a continuing investment in the site and buildings which in recent years has included a new Food Technology room, re-modelled Reception, new Library, a full size fully floodlight Astro Pitch and new Sports Hall floor.

As well as the buildings the Governors have also ensured that the students have the most up-to-date equipment for learning with an iPad for every student.

In the lesson James worked with the students carrying out experiments to investigate the different colours that metals make when burnt and how this is applied in the making of fireworks – all very safely of course!

Apparently James was a model student and was able to answer the questions at the end of the lesson about the colour magnesium made.

He also found time to talk to the students about life at Pool Academy and the new 21st century laboratories. But don’t forget James, homework is due Friday!
