Turn to Starboard is currently recruiting for a full-time permanent Operations Support Administrator from our office at Falmouth Marina.

About us
Turn to Starboard helps serving and retired military personnel with physical injuries or mental trauma, and their families, to benefit from the therapeutic effects of sailing and the sea. We offer several strands of activity including Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing courses, family sailing trips, Tall Ship sailing and competitive racing.


About the role
The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of the Turn to Starboard team to help provide a quality sailing experience to an increasing number of participants by:

1. providing administrative support to the Operations Manager in delivery of sail training activity and logistical planning.

2. acting alongside the Turn to Starboard team as a primary contact for injured veterans. 

3. delivering quality consistently, in all tasks and output.

Key Responsibilities:

· to assist the Operations Manager to create quality sailing experiences for participants. 

· to build working relationships with wounded veterans and an understanding of their specific needs.

· to coordinate the programmes and schedules for participants’ sailing and training activities as directed by the Operations Manager.

· to take responsibility for all health and safety and MCA coding requirements on Turn to Starboard vessels.

· to maintain all necessary governance and processes in line with RYA centre accreditation.

· to monitor the costs of vessel maintenance and repair.

· to source training providers and coordinate training delivery.

· to be responsible for the practical logistics of participants attendance – including food, gas, water and clothing.

· to write specific documentation with supervision from the Operations Manager.

· to utilise cloud-based storage systems for ease of document sharing in line with the Turn to Starboard administration practices.

· to accept shared responsibility for taking incoming calls.


About you

Essential skills:

· a competent, professional administrator with strong organisational and project management skills.

· advanced MS Office skills.

· excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust when working with beneficiaries.

· the ability to prioritise, re-prioritise in line with the organisations changing needs.

· flexibility and willingness to undertake varied responsibilities to assist the organisation.

· the ability to build relationships, use discretion and manage expectations.

· ability to use own initiative and work with minimal supervision following training period.


· knowledge of CRM/database systems.

· an understanding or empathy with ex-Service and military personnel.

· an interest in the maritime sector.
