In aid of Bude Choral Society (registered charity 1101044)

Bude & Launceston Choral Societies give you a second chance to hear this rarely performed choral work. composed in 1738 and the libretto taken mainly from the Book of Exodus. It tells the story of the Israelites’ slavery in Egypt, the advent of Moses, the liberator, the plagues upon the Egyptians, the crossing of the Red Sea, and the subsequent rejoicing. The plagues plainly inspired Handel to create some of his most colourful musical effects including frogs, flies, locusts, hailstones and the eerie darkness, which precede the death of the first-born.
The experienced and accomplished soloists for both performances will be well-known to many: Elinor Chapman (soprano), Rebecca Smith (mezzo), Leslie Baker (tenor) and Julian Rippon (baritone), with conductor, John Hobbs singing a part in the duet for two baritones and Nick Danks providing support on the organ.
