Firefighters have been called to a house fire near Redruth.

The emergency shout came from a person who rang 999 when they woke-up to find their home filled with smoke.

Luckily, they managed to escape after the blaze, involving a kitchen worktop and a flue, broke out at Portreath.

Two teams from Tolvaddon were sent to the Green Lane just after 8am on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon receiving an emergency 999 call into the Critical Control Centre this morning from a resident reporting they had awoke to find their home was filled with smoke, two appliances from Tolvaddon and a wholetime officer were mobilised.

"Upon arrival the first appliance found the occupier had made her own way safely outside of the property.

"Two breathing apparatus, one hosereel and one thermal imaging camera were used to locate a fire involving a kitchen worktop and flue".
